Microsoft has introduced a redesigned version of Outlook, known as “New Outlook”.
Whilst this version does not support the Virtual Cabinet (VC) Outlook add-in, the good news is Microsoft has formally stated that Classic Outlook will be supported through to at least 2029 a b.
This means you can continue using the VC Outlook add-in with confidence for years to come.
To help you retain access to the VC add-in:
1. Manually revert users to Classic Outlook
In New Outlook, use the toggle in the top-right labelled “New Outlook” to disable it and return to Classic.
2. Prevent users switching accidentally
IT administrators can:
- Hide the new Outlook toggle: Use Group Policy with the 'HideNewOutlookToggle' registry key. Details can be found at: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365-apps/outlook/get-started/control-install
- Block mailbox access in New Outlook: Prevent users from accessing their mailbox in New Outlook using Exchange Online settings. Details can be found at: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/clients-and-mobile-in-exchange-online/outlook-on-the-web/enable-disable-employee-access-new-outlook
Looking Ahead:
