The built-in Document Viewer lets you preview and navigate documents without opening them in an external application. It can display multiple documents at once in a single window.
The Viewer appears throughout Virtual Cabinet when you open or preview a document. Whether it opens by default depends on your user profile settings (configured by your administrator).
Documents List
The panel on the left shows all documents you have open in the Viewer. Each entry can be expanded to show individual pages. Use the toolbar buttons to: navigate to the previous or next document, expand or collapse all page lists, show all documents as thumbnails, or open the selected document in its associated external application.
You can hide the documents list by clicking the expand button in the top corner of the panel.
Viewer Toolbar
The main toolbar provides controls for: zooming in and out, fitting the page to the window width or height, rotating the current page clockwise or anticlockwise (note this is a view change only; to permanently rotate pages you must edit the document), and showing or hiding TIFF annotations.
For TIFF documents in edit mode, additional tools are available: Redact (draw a black rectangle over sensitive content), Save, Undo, Redo, move pages up or down, rotate pages, delete pages, and add pages before or after the selected page using the scanner.
Viewer Options
Click Options in the Viewer toolbar to configure: whether TIFF files open in the classic viewer, whether Office documents are rendered as XPS (simplified read-only view), whether to show a link for documents the Viewer cannot display, whether to show the first page by default or all thumbnails, and the maximum number of documents open at one time.
Viewing Different File Types
Microsoft Office documents can be rendered in a simplified XPS view with basic navigation and text search. Emails indexed into Virtual Cabinet open in the Viewer and include an Open in Outlook button to launch the email in Outlook. Media files (audio and video) open with playback controls in the toolbar.
