The Hot Folder is a Windows folder watched by a background application that makes it easy to send files from any application into Virtual Cabinet. It is particularly useful for applications that do not have a dedicated Virtual Cabinet addin, such as PDF viewers or web browsers.
Starting the Hot Folder
- Click the Settings cog in the top-left of Virtual Cabinet.
- Select Open Hot Folder.
Once started, the Hot Folder runs in the Windows system tray and will automatically start each time you log into Windows. A small icon in the system tray confirms it is running.
Sending Files to Virtual Cabinet via the Hot Folder
You can send files in two ways: drag and drop files onto the Hot Folder shortcut on your Windows desktop, or use Save As within any application and select the Virtual Cabinet Hot Folder as the save location (it appears as a favourite in the Windows file browser).
Once a file lands in the Hot Folder, you will be prompted to choose where in Virtual Cabinet to send it: your own Intray, another user's or group Intray, or directly into a Filing Cabinet. Unticking Always ask remembers your selection for next time.
Hot Drop
Right-click the Hot Folder system tray icon and choose Open Hot Drop. This places a small floating drop zone on your desktop that you can drag files onto at any time. The behaviour is identical to using the Hot Folder directly.
Preferences
Right-click the system tray icon and choose Preferences to access settings for the Hot Folder and Hot Drop, including advanced options.
