Extracting Documents from Virtual Cabinet
This article explains how to extract documents out of Virtual Cabinet using VC Portable or by Building a Folder Structure, and what to do if you need to extract a large volume of documents.
Extracting a single document
- Select the document in VC.
- Click Extract in the ribbon (or right-click and choose Extract).
- Choose a save location and confirm.
Extracting multiple documents
- Select the documents you want to extract.
- Click Extract in the ribbon. This opens the Extract Documents window.
- Choose your extraction method:
- Virtual Cabinet Portable – exports the selected documents along with a standalone viewer application, so recipients can open and browse them without VC installed. During setup you can choose to password-protect the export; if protected, the files can only be opened using VC Portable and the password you set. This is a good option when sharing documents with someone outside your organisation who doesn't have VC.
- Build a Folder Structure – exports the documents as standard files into folders on your Windows file system. You can customise both the folder names and file names using index values from the documents (e.g. client name, document type), so the exported structure mirrors your filing setup rather than placing all files into one location.
- If needed, tick the option to automatically convert TIF files to PDF on export.
- Confirm to start the extraction.
