Summary:
There are two ways for users to add the new Virtual Cabinet Portal Certificate to their “Trusted Certificates” for Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, either:
- By trusting the Certificate on a Downloaded Signed Portal Document
- By trusting our Certificate attached to this article

Trusting a Certificate against a Downloaded Signed Portal Document
- Extract a recently Signed Document outside of Virtual Cabinet and open in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC
- Click on the “Signature Panel”
- Right-Click on the “Certified by Virtual Cabinet Portal…” line and then click “Show Signature Properties…”
- Now click on “Show Signer’s Certificate…”
- Now select the “Trust” tab and click “Add to Trusted Certificates…”
- Click OK to the next prompt
- Click “OK” on the “Import Contact Settings” window, you shouldn’t need to tick any further boxes as they will match the image below;
- Click OK to close the “Certificate Viewer” window
- Finally, click “Validate Signature” to complete the process
- The Signature Properties should now display as follows;
- When you close the Signature Properties, you’ll find that the Banner at the top of the signed document is now displayed correctly;
Trusting our Certificate Supplied via this article
- Download VCPortalCertificate.cer
- If the browser you are using downloads the above file as "VCPortalCertificate.cer.txt", just remove the .txt from the end of the file
- Open Adobe Acrobat Reader DC
- Click “Edit” -> “Preferences…”
- Now select the “Signatures” Category and click “More…” against “Identities & Trusted Certificates”
- In the “Digital ID and Trusted Certificate Settings” window that is displayed, select “Trusted Certificates” then click the Import button as shown below;
- Click “Browse” and select the VCPortalCertificate.cer you downloaded earlier, this will then be displayed under the “Contacts” group;
- Now, click on the “Virtual Cabinet Portal” Contact, this will display the Certificate in the group below, click on the Certificate and then “Trust…”;
- On the “Import Contact Settings” window tick the “Use this certificate as a trusted root” and “Certified documents” checkboxes, then click “OK”
- Now click “Import” and you should see the following;
- The next time you open a Signed Portal Document, you’ll find that the Banner at the top of document is now displayed correctly;
